Actresses Sharon Stone and Anne Heche are scheduled to attend the 2004 Circle of Light fund-raiser for Darkness to Light, an organization working toward the prevention of child sexual abuse. The star-studded event will be held Thursday under a huge tent in Marion Square.

In 2003, the nonprofit organization raised $200,000 at the Circle of Light Gala that was attended by 500 guests. Money raised goes to educate adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Darkness to Light provides a range of services and programs aimed to decrease the incidence of child sexual abuse across the country, using a national network of hotlines, informative literature, volunteer opportunities and educational programming.

The highlight of the evening, according to organizers, will be the presentation of the 2004 Voice of Courage awards. This year, Darkness to Light will honor CNN, Lifetime Inc. and documentary filmmaker Angela Shelton.

Shelton, a victim of sexual abuse, produced "Searching for Angela Shelton," a film of her journey to meet other Angela Sheltons in the United States. During her journey, she learned that 16 of the 32 other Angela Sheltons she met had been raped, beaten or molested.

Previous award recipients include Heche, Time Inc. and advertising agency Young & Rubicam.

The gala evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and will feature a live Cirque du Soleil-type aerial ballet featuring two dancers from Circus Flora. A gourmet dinner will be prepared by the city's most celebrated chefs, with music for dancing provided by The MAXX from Atlanta. Martinis at the SKYY Vodka bar will be served along with other beverages.

The evening also will include a live auction in which guests may bid on vacations at a lodge in Australia; the Lapa Palace in Lisbon, Portugal; the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu, Peru; and the Hotel Ritz in Madrid, Spain, said to be a home away from home for many of the European royals. Guests also can bid on stateside trips to the U.S. Open, New York's Fashion Week, a visit to the Lowcountry's Cherokee Plantation and other packages.
