Darkness to Light will again roll out its red carpet for the annual Circle of Light Gala next week at Marion Square. The evening’s Asian theme was inspired by one of the sponsors, MTV Chi, who will be filming live at the event.
The gala begins at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in downtown Charleston. The night will feature several live performances, including a Japanese Taiko Fusion band, Zero TaiKo, and the debut of a Darkness to Light song written by Dan Mackenzie and sung by 30 local children ages 8 to 10.
If you can’t attend the event, you can still participate in the online auction. Auction items include trips to New York, a spa package in Colorado, Brays Island, California Sonoma and a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyo. The gala will include a live auction of luxury travel packages and items.
The 2006 Voice of Courage award will be presented to Amy Berg for her critically acclaimed documentary "Deliver Us from Evil." A reporter for CBS and then CNN, Berg spent four years investigating pedophiliac priests and her resultant film is the story of a priest who openly admits to having molested hundreds of boys and girls. Volvo of North America will be presented the Corporate Award by CNN’s Greg Alba for its generosity in underwriting the 2006 Prevent-a-thon for Darkness to Light.
Over the past three years, the Circle of Light Gala has raised close to $1 million for its mission of educating adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
