Women Making A Difference, a Lowcountry charitable giving circle, was started in 2001 by three women and has since grown to more than 100 members who give anywhere from $250 to $2,500 a year.
They have distributed more than $150,000 in grants to local organizations including Boys and Girls Club, Carolina Medical Assessment Center, Carolina Youth Development Center, Center For Women, Dress for Success, Florence Crittenton, From Darkness to Light, Halos, My Sister's House, People Against Rape and Wings For Kids.
Their premier annual event, "Spring Soiree" with food and drink, will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at the Belvidere Clubhouse, 12 Patriots Point, Mount Pleasant. It's free and open to all. See www.womenmakingadifference.com.
The League of Women Voters will sponsor a lunchtime talk by Charlene Gadsden, director of the Charleston office of the S.C. guardian ad litem program, on April 27 at noon at the Lowcountry Senior Center, 865 Riverland Dr.
Gadsden's topic is "Speaking Up for a Child."
