The nonprofit group Darkness to Light is holding training courses educating them about the facts of sex abuse.

One quarter of girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.

In 90% of sexual abuse cases the child knows the abuser.

The training course organizers say teaching adults is a big step in protecting kids from sexual predators.

Some steps you can take right now to protect kids:

1. Minimize opportunity-- eliminating one child to one adult situations dramatically lowers the risk of sexual abuse.

2. Talk about it and be open with your child

3. Stay alert. Don't expect the signs of abuse to be obvious

4. Make a plan of how to react if you find out your child has been sexually abused.

5. Act on suspicions. Don't wait because you aren't 100% sure something is wrong. The well being of a child is what is at stake.
